PLEASE consider this question concerning the Wisconsin Rally last weekend:

While everyone listening to mainstream news heard that Michael Moore
gave a rousing speech (debatable IMO) who among you heard about Dennis
Kucinich's well received speech??? Then ask WHY??

Maybe because Kucinich laid all this privatization stuff on the table by
saying what economics prof Michel Chossudovsky predicted a couple years
ago - that the financial sector wants to buy out the REAL economy and
all its capabilities.Paralleling what Kucinich says in his speech
Chossudovsky writes in his book War and Globalization, quote:
"Ultimately control over national currency systems is the basis upon
which countries are colonized. The underlying objective of the United
States is to extend the dominion of the Federal Reserve System - namely
Wall Street- over a vast territory. . .Control over money creation and
credit is an integral part of the process of economic conquest, which in
turn is supported by . . .militarization."

In that speech Kucinich mentions both his own experience with
privatization when "Boy Mayor of Cleveland" and also the recent screw
over of Michigan, which is yet another example of how the money power is
swiftly moving to seize control of local governments This bill was
signed today (March 17), and grants the governor the power to declare an
emergency and overrule anyone, any elected official, any township, city
or school and appoint an all-powerful "manager" or corporate firm who

Hi Kathy,
It's been a while and it's great to make connections again, albeit under sad and troubling circumstances. What happened to your brother is brutally chilling. What people need to recognize is that anyone of us could fall victim to institutional violence or injustices. Need we be reminded of Guantanamo Bay, Private Bradley Manning, or Congressman Peter King's (R-NY) McCarthy-like hearings against U.S. Muslims? What happened to your brother is a glaring outrage in an era which is awash in outrages, and we have no other recourse but to demand justice for his sake as well as for ourselves. You have my personal support and I'm ready to be counted on your behalf. If you're planning any kind of protest, or phone call action please let me know. I'm sure that you're pursuing your legal options. I can't tell you how sick I am of what is happening all around us.

Indeed, how could anyone of us from the early days of DAWN forget the struggle to prevent another illegal and disastrous war in Iraq on top of the one we were already fighting in Afghanistan. History has proven us right. That becomes clearer and clearer each passing day and there's satisfaction in that. What is noticeably missing, however, is a complete lack of justice. For those who are interested in justice for those with special needs, the
elderly or anyone who is in a state-funded institution, please tune in to CBS
Channel 2 Dave Savini's special report on Monday. Some of you may know that my
brother, Paul, who was mentally disabled, was beaten in a group home downstate
and died of his injuries. He was beaten by staff. There will be two criminal
trials ( the staff involved confessed and are charged with murder ) and a civil
trial. Shawn Collins ( you may remember him from the Jeff and Sara FREE SPEECH
case) is representing my family in the civil matter.

I have so far told a handful of DAWN people about this matter, the details of
which are still unfolding. As time goes on this cause of protecting our most
vulnerable- the handicapped, the elderly, will be something that I plan on
advocating for. Legislation is already being drafted to prevent this type of
event from occurring again. Stay tuned for details. K

I write with some bad news: it appears that a bill encouraging water privatization has been introduced into the Illinois House of Representatives. We found out about the bill on Friday night. It passed out of the Public Utilities Committee yesterday. Food & Water Watch activists have already sent more than 1,000 letters to our state representatives asking them not to vote for HB 1955, but we need a lot more organizing and action to stop this bill from passing a House vote. HB 1955 (otherwise known as the water privatization bill) is labeled as a water evaluation bill but actually facilitates the acquisition of public water systems by privately-owned companies/utilities such that the municipalities served by the water systems lose ratemaking authority as well as public oversight of the utility.

Join us tonight for a GREAT program...
"Veteran's Solidarity Work"
featuring Johanna (Hans) Buwalda, the national coordinator of vets
counseling for Vietnam Vets Against War. Hans will speak about working
with returning Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, many of whom are
struggling with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Hans
coordinates the mobilizing (and training) of other therapists to work
with vets. She's working with WSFPC to mobilize counselors and
therapists to work in this area.

Our own Rev. Bob Sandman will also be speaking tonight. Bob will
share about a courageous UCC congregation in Tallmadge, Ohio that has
mobilized to offer support for returning Iraq and Afghanistan war
vets. WSFPC is hoping to help start a similar initiative among
churches here in the west suburbs.

Dear fellow MoveOn member, Hi. I'm a MoveOn member like you, and a mom. I'm writing today because I'm really scared about what will happen to my family if Republicans get their way with the budget, which could happen any day now.
I've got a 1-year-old son with serious heart problems. Thanks to a program called WIC, he gets the formula he needs. But Republicans want to cut money from WIC, and I'm really worried we won't be able to afford it anymore.
I'm also in school and about to get my degree, which I'm really proud of. But after looking for months, I haven't found a job. The thing is, experts say we'll lose 700,000 jobs if this Republican budget passes! I won't give up looking for a job, but I can't even imagine how much harder it will get.
I'm scared for my baby, myself, and my family. So I'm taking action. Tomorrow, I'm going to a Defend the Dream rally organized by MoveOn members here in Kentucky. And I'm hoping you'll go to a rally this week, too.

It's not just how hard it is to find a good job, or potentially losing my baby's formula. Every piece of what Republicans are planning will hurt so many people—I felt I needed to do something. They want to cut funds for day care, which my son will need when I find a job. They want to cut money for schools and teachers, which means bigger classes for him and his friends when he's older. And they're taking away protections for clean air and water, which he needs—and we all need—to live.
As the parents of a baby who's already had open-heart surgery twice, I think his dad and I can handle an awful lot. But what Republicans are doing makes me scared for the future of America.
So that's why I'm going to this event tomorrow. It's my first MoveOn event—being a mom, student, and looking for a job, I'm pretty busy. And I bet you are too. But I hope you can come to the event tomorrow in La Grange. I know we can make a huge difference.

Just who do these privatization schemes benefit? Certainly not we the
people, who would most likely raise our voices in strong opposition if
they knew the scope of this effort - which extends not only to parking
meters and power plants but to pension plan privatization. Conversion of
public pension systems to individual 401K accounts would certainly be
yet another cash cow for Wall Street, but given the history of Enron
etal, maybe not such a good idea for everyone else.

Things will only get worse, much worse, especially for those not
connected to Wall Street. The problem is systemic and has to do with the
manner in which our "money" is created as "credit" - that is to say debt.

There is a better way: the NEED Act:

borrowing costs by 2/3's, all while adding no debt and reducing taxes
